Camping in Caribou-Targhee National Forest: common questions

Can you still get a campsite in Caribou-Targhee National Forest if it looks sold out?

Usually, yes. Over the last 30 days 2 of the 57 campgrounds here came open on at least 3 separate days, and Squirrel Meadows Cabin came open on 6 of them. Sites free up when other people cancel, which happens constantly — the hard part is being there in the minutes after one lands.

When do cancelled campsites reopen?

Cancellations arrive around the clock rather than evenly through the day. CampSage watches continuously and alerts you the moment a site frees up at a campground you are following, so you do not have to sit on a booking page refreshing it.

How far ahead can you book Caribou-Targhee National Forest?

Reservations release on a rolling window, so new dates appear on a fixed schedule and the popular nights go within minutes of release. Missing the release is not the end of it — cancellations keep arriving right up to the date.
